EKIS UNAIR student wins first place in IESCO 6.0 Islamic Economics Olympiad Sunday, 21 May 2023 20:28

UNAIR NEWS - Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) students once again made their alma mater proud through international competition. UNAIR Islamic Economics students won first place in the international Islamic Economics Olympiad IESCO 6.0 at UNIDA Gontor on January 24-25, 2023. The team consisted of Diaz Tulus Anandri (Islamic Economics 2021); Albar Muhammad Aziz (Islamic Economics 2021); and also Binti Khusnul Hidayah (Islamic Economics 2020).

Representing the team, Diaz admitted that he was delighted and grateful for this achievement. He and his team proved that UNAIR students can compete with other leading universities.

"Personally, I am very happy to be a champion. And, I really didn't expect to get this far. Hopefully, in the future we can further improve the reputation of UNAIR at the national and international levels," he said.

Quiz Method

The IESCO 6.0 competition focused on the quiz method. With an elimination round format consisting of compulsory and scramble quizzes. The preliminary round produced the six best teams to advance to the final round. Similarly, the final round has the exact mechanism with additional questions related to the visualization of the faces of Islamic economic figures.

With the format of the quiz competition, Diaz said that he did not raise a special topic in the IESCO 6.0 competition. However, a syllabus of material is tested and must be studied by his team.

"These materials include the history of Islamic economic thought, Islamic macroeconomics and microeconomics, fiqh Muamalah, and Islamic finance," he said.

Have the Vision to Win with Honesty

Equalizing the vision to win honestly is one of the keys to the team's success. Therefore, Diaz and his team have divided the material from the beginning. The team studied together and practiced each other's skills, such as working on problems and asking each other questions.

The rest, they strategized by agreeing on certain things according to the technicalities of the competition. For example, determining who raises their hand during the quiz and opening the presentation.

"What our team always emphasizes is winning with honesty," said the Faculty of Economics and Business UNAIR student.

Vacation Not an Obstacle

With the holiday period underway, the team encountered various obstacles, such as long distances between each other. In addition, network constraints, devices, and connections to communicate with each other. However, thanks to their passion and struggle, they achieved sweet fruit and advanced to the final round.

"The first round was online and we were separated from each other. Finally, there were communication problems that couldn't be direct. In addition, there were obstacles such as signal and device problems," he said.

Diaz hopes that there will be more Airlangga Knights who fight in competitions out there, but still have a knightly spirit. Especially to strengthen the slogan of excellent with morality.

"We also really hope that we can make Airlangga University proud in the global arena and in other fields of competition," he hoped.
