UNAIR NEWS – Farani Nazwa Chairunisa Irsan, a Faculty of Law (FH) graduate, earned two academic degrees at Universitas Airlangga graduation 231, on March 5, 2023. She received the Bachelor of Law and Legum Baccalaureus (LLB) for her hard work in pursuing the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) held by UNAIR.

The first-ever graduate of Faculty of Law UNAIR and Maastricht University

The graduation made the 2000-born student the first graduate of double-degree program collaboration between the Faculty of Law UNAIR and the Faculty of Law Maastricht University, the Netherlands. Earning those degrees and different learning environments allowed Farani to have more qualifications and experiences.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, she went to Limburg, the Netherlands, in August 2020. She attended Maastricht University until November 2021. Farani used the problem-based learning (PBL) system to learn European Law, particularly in Comparative Law in the jurisdictions of the UK, Dutch, German, French, and the US.

Valuable experiences

One of her most valuable experiences happened during the examination week in the first quarter at Maastricht University. “Two weeks before the exam, a friend of mine and I had a routine of daydreaming, crying, and studying together until midnight,” Farani said.

Those experiences made her stronger and tougher to adapt to a different educational system.

Graduating late

Being the first graduate of the collaborative program comes with its price. Farani had to graduate a year longer than expected. However, she believed it was worth the perks she got during her uni days.

“I won’t try to sugarcoat the program because it’s hard indeed. But, if you really want the double degree, you have to sacrifice a lot, and it’s worth it,” she said.
