Supporting SDGs Program, UNAIR builds drilled well in Purnama Village Tuesday, 23 May 2023 08:51

UNAIR NEWS – As one of the best universities in Indonesia, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) continues to contribute to the surrounding communities and the world. The efforts are expected to play a direct and active role in the welfare of society. One of the efforts is the construction of drilled wells for the people of Purnama Village, Bondowoso Regency.

This activity is one of UNAIR’s efforts in developing a global action transformation incorporated in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially point 6, Clean Water and Sanitation. It was held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, in Purnama Village, Bondowoso Regency.

“This is proof for all that members Universitas Airlangga academic community and its alumni have contributed and participated in every indicator of Sustainable Development Goals,” said Vice Rector for Internationalization, Digitalization and Information, Prof. Muhammad Miftahussurur dr. MKes SpPD KGEH PhD FINASIM.

Clean water is indeed a basic need in human life. It has been a rare item in Purnama Village for years. Its location, which is quite far from water sources, coupled with the soil’s geographical conditions, which tend to be rocky, means that clean water supplies must be imported from other villages.

“The supply comes once in two days, so it is really difficult. From 2017, I used to deliver clean water with my volunteers using a pick-up truck with a capacity of one thousand liters,” said the Head of PAPDI Community Services in Bondowoso, Dr. Yusdeny Lanasakti SpPD.

For the villagers, the drilled well aid which is a collaboration between Universitas Airlangga Internal Medicine Alumni Association (IKA IPD UNAIR) and the Surabaya Association of Indonesian Internal Medicine Specialists (PAPDI) is a blessing in itself. Seeing all this time, residents have to wait for clean water aid to arrive or take it directly to a water source quite far away.

“So this water, the drilling aid, must be kept safe and clean. So that it can bring benefits to the whole village community. Hopefully, Purnama Village will be more successful,” added the Head of Purnama Village, Sholeh.
