UNAIR NEWS - Psychology Alumni Association Universitas Airlangga (Apsilangga) held a graduate briefing on Tuesday, August 8, 2020. The event, which was held online, took the title Embracing Growth Mindset and Strategic Networking for Bright Futures with Ginta Naufal SPsi as the speaker.

On the occasion, the 2008 UNAIR Psychology alumnus gave many tips on how to prepare yourself after graduating. One of them is how to build a network for fresh graduates.

"Successful people build and look for networks. But ordinary people, they just look for a job," Ginta explained. He said that this network was very helpful in building his career after he graduated from University.

"It is not me who is busy looking for work, but it is work and opportunities that are busy looking for me. This is an ease from the Almighty given to me," Ginta continued.

According to him, starting a network is as simple as saying hello to people around you. We can also utilize digital media to build connections with many people. For example, through social media such as Instagram or LinkedIn.

"On campus, you can start by greeting your friends, seniors, or even lecturers. Try to start following their social media accounts too. That way, there will be engagement between us and them," suggests Ginta.

The engagement that is built will be very beneficial for us in the future. The reason is, the more we are known by many people, the greater our chances of being invited to join a certain project or job.

"There is a possibility that we will be selected and recommended for a certain project or job," explained the founder of Nu Gen Daycare.

Another important point in building a network is recognizing ourselves. "Know ourselves. Sun Tzu once said 'Know yourself, know the terrain, know your opponent,'" said Ginta.

At the end of the session, Ginta advised fresh graduates to always maximize what we can give to the people around us. 

"Always look at what you can give, not just what you get. As much as you can give, it will come back to us," he concluded. (*)
