UNAIR NEWS - Alumni Association (IKA) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) UK region held a gathering and consolidation agenda on Monday (28/8/2023). The event which took place at 16.00 UK time presented the Chairperson of PP IKA UNAIR Khofifah Indar Parawansa who is also the Governor of East Java, to the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Kingdom, Desra Percaya PhD. Both figures are also UNAIR alumni. This agenda was not only attended by IKA UNAIR in the UK but also IKA UNAIR in the United States virtually.

Prof. Delvac Oceandy MD PhD, an alumnus of UNAIR Faculty of Medicine and currently a Medical Science Expert at the University of Manchester said that the growth of UNAIR alumni in the UK is increasing rapidly.

"When I first came to the UK, there were only a few UNAIR alumni. But now there are about 35 people here," he said.

UNAIR alumni are in the UK to work or continue their postgraduate education at several well-known universities in the UK. Meanwhile, PP IKA UNAIR representative Indra Nur Fauzi said that this event would strengthen the diaspora ties of UNAIR alumni in the UK.

"We strengthen the roles of the UNAIR alumni diaspora in the UK and several other countries so that when they (IKA UNAIR, ed) return to Indonesia they can contribute," he said.

ROLE OF ALUMNI 

Not to forget, Desra Percaya revealed that as one of the world-class universities, the role of the alumni is very important. "All world-class universities are supported by strong alumni ties. So alumni is not a gathering place but an important forum to maintain, develop, and connect with the alma mater," he explained.

Desra added that he welcomes UNAIR students who want to experience working at the Indonesian Embassy in London. This internship program is useful for students to gain hands-on work experience before graduating.

"In the future, we will accept internship students from UNAIR. This is a good thing because from the beginning students get work experience. UNAIR students who want to do internships at the Indonesian Embassy in London are welcome," he said.

This agenda was held simultaneously with the signing of a letter of intent (LOI) between IKA UNAIR represented by Vice Rector for Academic, Student Affairs and Alumni Prof. Dr. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto drh DEA, with Breakthrough Capital and BAXE UK represented by Sandra L. Mesran Tusin BSc ACA BFP. The procession was also witnessed by Khofifah Indar Parawansa and Princess of Kuwait who is the COO of Breakthrough Capital. (*)
