A Public Servant's Love for Social Science Thursday, 02 November 2023 06:55

Unair News - Kombes Pol Arnapi's militancy and love of the state service in studying deserves a thumbs up. Amid the hustle and bustle of his work as a member of the National Police, he was able to show his best performance in the academic field.

The student of the social science program managed to hold the title of Best Graduate of Doctoral Degree of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNAIR Period 234 on (14/10/2023). He completed his studies with an almost perfect GPA of 3.97.

For the former Head of Legal Affairs of the East Java Regional Police, continuing his doctoral studies is necessary. As a member of the Police, he realizes that academic insight has an important role in supporting his duties. Moreover, the social sciences he is studying are inseparable from his profession as a police officer.

"Most people think that police duties are more about law enforcement. But in fact, the main task of the police is to master social science to provide solutions to problems that exist in society. Thus, we can realize the maintenance of conducive security and order," he explained.

Likes Social Science

During his tenure, he has dealt with many social problems ranging from gambling, and theft, to thuggery. If you look at the law, Arnapi said, all these cases can be easily prosecuted. However, if examined further through social science, there are many things to consider so that the police cannot act arbitrarily.

"The police cannot only look at the law. The police must also be able to see the socio-cultural conditions of society. I see that many problems can be solved nicely. That's where I thought if many police officers understand social science and have good social communication with the community, the task of law enforcement will be reduced," he explained.

After graduating from UNAIR, the Head of Police Administration Studies at Jakarta Police College is committed to continuing to explore and apply the social science he has gained in the field of policing.

"I will also share this knowledge with my colleagues, considering that social science is beneficial in dealing with the current social conditions in Indonesia," he concluded. (*)
