UNAIR Medicine alumni share tips to study in London with LPDP Tuesday, 07 November 2023 02:38

UNAIR NEWS – Doctor Margareth Ayu Caroline, UNAIR Medicine alumni, currently pursuing study in the University College London (UCL). Getting to the point is not easy. However, she made it this far.

The LPDP awardee shared some tips on pursuing study in London to UNAIR NEWS, on October 29, 2023. Her ambition to become a clinical lecturer motivated her to continue her studies. “I want to be a clinical lecturer, I’m interested in being an educator,” she said.

She expressed her interest in orthopedics. Therefore, she chose the Musculoskeletal Science and Medical Engineering Master of Science program. Besides, UCL has partnered up with one of the world’s leading orthopedic hospitals.

The facility and educational curriculum also play an important role in supporting Oline to achieve what she wants. “The UCL has partnered up with the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, one of the world’s top orthopedic hospitals. The education curriculum covers the clinical, techniques, biomaterial, and research,” she said.

The secrets
Olin further shared the secrets behind the study. First, build a strong why, that will ease every journey. She even needed quite some time to decide her reasons.

“Before I decide to continue my study, I have to find a strong reason. It may take some time. Without this, it’s going to be hard for me to get through the processes,” she said.

Second, discuss more with the mentors. It is necessary to find a mentor, who will guide her in facing any obstacles. “Finding a mentor means asking for help and guidance from those who have managed to pursue study abroad. No matter how smart we are, we can’t pass the process alone,” Oline said.

Therefore, she recommends finding a mentor through the social media platform. Third, find peers who undergo the same process. Students who study abroad tend to feel lonely. Peers’ presence encourages one another because they are sharing the same position.

Oline’s admission process took quite some time. “Preparing for university admission and scholarships could not be done in just one or two months. You’re going to need a well-structured timeline,” she said.

At last, she advises to always enjoy the entire process. It must keep going no matter how painful it is. “The more it progresses, the greater the pain felt. It can be painful and unpleasant. However, the process must continue,” she said
