DPKKA UNAIR Collaborates with BOEING to Discuss Indonesia's Potential to Become the World's 4th Largest Aviation Site Friday, 12 January 2024 02:16

With rapid economic growth, advanced aviation infrastructure, and a strategic geographical position, Indonesia has emerged as a prime candidate to achieve the prestigious position as the world's 4th largest aviation hub. With thousands of islands spread across the archipelago, the development of regional airports is a crucial factor in ensuring accessibility and ease of travel for people and businesses.

UNAIR Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship Incubation, and Alumni (DPKKA) collaborated with BOEING as an aircraft manufacturer in the world in a webinar with the theme "Sharing Boeing Experiences". This activity was held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, through a Zoom meeting.

The Need for Air Travel

According to data, Zaid Alami Boeing Indonesia Managing Director said that by 2036 Indonesia will become the fourth largest aviation site in the world. This is what makes the Boeing company interested in being able to contribute and support this growth. Zaid said the growth is driven by several factors, and one of them is geography.

"There are more than 17,000 islands in the country and there are 6000 of them inhabited, so the people who live on these 6000 islands have the desire to travel, visit relatives, and business interests, and air travel is very responsive to these conditions," Zaid explained.

When looking at aviation specifically, Zaid revealed that there is growth in that regard. "When you look at aviation specifically, we are currently seeing over 11% growth in aviation. So there will be a lot of opportunities and a lot of growth coming to the country in that aspect," he said.

Sustainable Fuel

Boeing has the technology to develop sustainable aviation fuel. The sustainable fuel is made from seven different technology lines. Many of these fuels are agricultural waste products.

In this case, Zaid also revealed that Indonesia has greater potential and is better prepared in this regard, "But the most interesting thing is that Indonesia is ready to move up the value chain and become a major global player in sustainable aviation fuel" he said.
