UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga hosted an event with a special guest from the UNAIR Alumni Association chapter USA. She is Ari Sufiati, Senior Project Manager at Apple Inc.

She was invited to the Awarding and Signing of GCC x UNAIR, on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, which was held by the Directorate of Career Development, Business Incubation, and Alumni and the Global Career Challenge (GCC).

The signing took place at the Balairua, Management Building, MERR-C Campus. Among the guests were Rector Prof Dr Mohammad Nasih SE MT Ak, Vice-Rector for Academics, Student, and Alumni Affairs Prof Dr Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto DEA DVM, and the Director of DPKKA Prof Dr Elly Munadziroh drg MS.

Alumni club to networking
Ari extended her appreciation for organizing the GCC event. The Communication alumna further expressed hope that UNAIR would establish a club abroad based on hobbies or interests.

“Just like Stanford at Apple, UNAIR at Apple can work too,” she said.

She encouraged the audience to think out of the box. She emphasized the importance of students being able to think beyond.

“Along with focusing on the existing options, we should also think out-of-the-box,” Ari said.

Prof Nasih highly values such activities like the GCC, emphasizing that sharing learning experiences is immensely beneficial for students.

“If students only focus on their current courses, they might easily achieve a 4.0 GPA. However, it’s important for them to gain other experiences as well,” he said.

Despite having 36 participants who successfully qualified for the GCC program, Prof Nasih urges Ari to increase the number of participants. This is because the careers of UNAIR students are still predominantly at the domestic level, with only a few venturing into international arenas.

“Hopefully, students will be able to seize the opportunity to work or build careers abroad,” he said.

Prof Nasih also welcomes the idea of credit hour conversion, especially for reputable destination companies like Apple and Boeing. The rector requested Ari to expand the international network for the alumni.

“Kindly expand our alumni reach,” he said.

Awarding session
Prof Nasih’s speech was followed by the presentation of certificates to the finalists and the awarding of the GCC program. Wahidah Mevi from the Communication Department, FISIP, was declared the Winner of GCC 2023, and Nicholas Cicho from FTMM was the Runner-up. The event continued with the presentation of a plaque and souvenirs to Ari Sufiati and UNAIR Alumni Association chapter USA.
