UNAIR Communications student to gain global experience in America Friday, 08 March 2024 09:29

UNAIR NEWS – The Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship Incubation, and Alumni Affairs (DPKKA) at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has created an opportunity for students through the Global Career Challenge (GCC). This exciting initiative offers the first-place winner a unique global experience in the United States, scheduled for the upcoming November.

Seizing this golden opportunity, Wahidah Mevi Nihayah, a student of Communication Science from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Airlangga, actively participated in the Global Career Challenge program. Her efforts and skills paid off as she emerged as the winner of the Global Experience Program award.

In an interview with UNAIR NEWS on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, Mevi shared her experience. She elaborated that the Global Career Challenge is an initiative by the UNAIR USA Alumni Association crafted to support students in gearing up for a global career.

Mevi explained to UNAIR NEWS, “The Global Career Challenge, as its name implies, aids UNAIR students in pursuing their careers. We were coached on crafting a resume, developing personal branding, and received tips on job applications from UNAIR alumni who are working in the USA.”

Global Career Challenge

Mevi shared that the Global Career Challenge was conducted online over two months, from November to December 2023. During this period, she participated in a simulation of the recruitment process at Boeing Company.

“I simulated the various stages of the job application process at Boeing Company, from submitting my resume to undergoing interviews. I even had the opportunity to be interviewed directly by three Boeing employees from Indonesia, Japan, and Korea. This experience provided valuable insights into the application process within a large company,” she explained.

Student career preparation

Mevi stated that the Global Career Challenge was her first experience. As a senior student, she discussed how this program could help her start a profession after graduation.

“As a final-year student, I was naturally torn between working and continuing my studies. Even though I wanted to work, I wasn’t sure which company to apply to. As a result, I decided to engage in GCC to prepare for future employment opportunities,” she said.
