UNAIR NEWS - Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship Incubation, and Alumni (DPKKA) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is always determined to improve student career opportunities. On Thursday (28/03/2024) DPKKA collaborated with Ninja Xpress in a webinar discussing career opportunities in the field of data analysis. In the webinar, Kania Lalita Kristanto, Head of Data Analytics Ninja Xpress explained how data analysis is open to various business sectors.

The webinar, which was held online through a Zoom meeting, was attended by hundreds of students who were enthusiastic about data science. Kania welcomed them positively by giving tips on pursuing a career in the field.

Data Analyst Career Opportunities are Wide Open
Although Kania is currently working for a logistics company, she recognises that almost all business sectors require a data analysis process. "All business decisions must be based on data," she assured.

According to her, data is one of the fuels in business process optimisation. With data analysis, costs and operational processes can be more efficient and optimised. In addition, analysing customer feedback is also very important because it can be used as an evaluation material in developing products and business processes.

Kania herself utilises the data analysis process to build a customer service chatbot model. With this service, consumers are immediately handled without having to wait for customer service, which is often busy.

"Chatbot is just one example of implementation. There are many things that can be done with data analysis. For example, to find the most significant factors in performance improvement and analyse worker performance for HR purposes," Kania explained.

Not only that, Kania further inspired the webinar participants by telling how the data analysis process also plays a role in user personalisation. User personalisation generally applies to social media. She explained that it is a recommendation system that seems to know what a user wants. Kania emphasised the important role of user data in the development of such systems.

With various examples of data analysis implementation in the business sector, Kania assured that career opportunities in the field are wide open. Not only people who have an IT background can enter the field, but someone who already has a practical scientific base will be able to do more in-depth data analysis.

Preparing for a Career as a Data Analyst
Kania again emphasised that anyone can become a data analyst. However, in pursuing this career, she suggests paying attention to several things. Starting from technical needs to the process of maintaining enthusiasm and motivation.

Firstly, according to Kania, a data analyst must understand basic statistics such as chance concepts and statistical calculations. These concepts will help in understanding the data analysis process, which often involves uncertainty and hypothesis testing. In addition, proficiency in the use of data and statistical tools such as SQL, R, and Python would be a plus.

However, data processing tools are constantly evolving. Therefore, a data analyst must learn continuously to keep up with the times. However, according to Kania, it is very important to balance the learning process with other activities that are encouraging. This is useful to maintain the enthusiasm and motivation to keep growing and achieve the career of your dreams.
