UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has made another achievement. UNAIR won gold in the health sub-theme essay competition. The competition was titled National Education Competition 2024.

The competition was organized by EDUHUB in collaboration with UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, Jakarta. The semifinal and final took place on Sunday – Monday (May, 12-13 2024).

The five students, Andini Ariani Carolina (Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences), Aufar Mahran Alleani (Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline), Firman Maulana Barokah (Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences), Lourencia Yoan Angelica (Faculty of Pharmacy), and M. Rofiqi Azmi (Faculty of Pharmacy).

Breast cancer monitoring system
At the competition, Lourencia said her team highlighted the issue of breast cancer. “We saw that occurrence of breast cancer is still quite high in Indonesia,” she said. Their concern about the incidence of breast cancer led them to initiate an innovation.

The innovation is titled Smart Bra Based on Microwave and Polarized Textile Sensor as Early Breast Cancer Monitoring System. With this innovation, Lourencia and team hope that breast cancer can be detected quickly.

“Breast cancer rates are very high, but early diagnosis is still lacking. So breast cancer patients find out when they are in an advanced stage,” she explained.

This Smart Bra has sensors and is integrated with clothing. It makes it easier for the user. This innovation is a breath of fresh air for the community as it can maximize early detection of breast cancer. Thus, treatment can be done immediately.

“This innovation brings a new breakthrough, which can maximize early detection of breast cancer. So that breast cancer cases can be reduced and treatments to patients can be performed immediately,” she explained.

Tips for writing essay
Last but not least, Lourencia and team also revealed tips on how to write interesting essays. According to them, the most important thing is that the idea is useful for the community.

“It should be an interesting idea and provide benefits to the community. Furthermore, the essay must have a futuristic impression,” said Lourencia.

Students usually find it difficult to decide on an essay topic. But this team has special tips to overcome this. “Do some pre-search to find inspiration and narrow down the topic. Make a list of questions to help focus and formulate the northern idea,” said Lourencia.

UNAIR won overall champion
For your information, in the same championship UNAIR was named the overall champion. 13 UNAIR teams performed so well that UNAIR won a total of 17 awards in this championship.

UNAIR won two gold medals, six silver medals, and four bronze medals. Furthermore, UNAIR also won other awards such as 2nd Place for national essay, Best Paper Essay on Health, Best Poster Essay on Creative Industry, Best Poster Essay on Health, and 5th Place in Business Plan category.
