UNAIR NEWS – Four students from Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) have been chosen to represent Indonesia at the 19th ASEAN and 9th ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum (AYCF) 2024. The delegates include Nauval Syahferi (FTMM), Nabila Putri Siswandini (FIB), Nabila Fadhia Ulhaq (Fpsi), and Muhammad Rifki Ivan Alfizar (FEB).

The event, organized by the ASEAN University Network (AUN), was held at Universiti Brunei Darussalam from June 23 to June 28, 2024. This year’s theme, “Futuring Together Towards Preserving Arts and Culture,” featured participants from ASEAN nations as well as China, Korea, and Japan.

Engagement in various activities
The program began with an opening ceremony, followed by national cultural performances where participants showcased traditional arts from their home countries. The Indonesian delegates performed Lancang Kuning dance, Sabalah dance, Gambang Suling song, and the national song, Rayuan Pulau Kelapa.

On the second day, delegates attended academic discussions focusing on the importance of culture in society. Participants also took part in the ASEAN art and cultural bazaar, which included exhibitions and performances aimed at promoting cultural exchange.

The third day was about social and educational visits designed to enhance the delegates’ understanding of Brunei’s culture. These visits included trips to Temburong District, Bukit Udal Village, and Kampong Ayer.

Additionally, delegates participated in excursions and workshops on Brunei’s native cultures, which they later presented during the closing ceremony.

On the fourth day, delegates attended the closing ceremony, followed by collaborative performance workshops where participants showcased Brunei’s traditional cultural practices learned during the workshops.

Memorable and valuable experiences
Nauval, one of UNAIR’s representatives, stated that the event would be an unforgettable experience. He highlighted that it offered an excellent opportunity to learn about and preserve cultural heritage.

“Introducing Indonesian culture on the ASEAN stage presents its challenges. Nonetheless, we cherished every moment as unforgettable memories,” he said.

Nauval hoped that through this event, Indonesian culture would gain wider recognition across Asia. He also believes that the experience will be invaluable for promoting and preserving Indonesian culture in the future.
