UNAIR NEWS – Taekwondo Student Activity Unit (UKM) of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has made another achievement. They brought home 3 gold medals and 1 bronze medal from the Garuda Taekwondo National Championship 2024 at Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta (UPY) on Saturday-Sunday, May 18-19, 2024.

In an interview with UNAIR NEWS, Bunga Anggraeni as the head of UKM Taekwondo explained that she and four other team members did not expect to outperform 150 participants from all over Indonesia as their preparation was brief.

“Of course, it is not an easy thing to make this achievement. Persistence and hard work bring us to this point,” Bunga told UNAIR NEWS on Sunday, May, 19 2024.

Commitment as key

Bunga explained, time management was their challenge. Bunga and team must prepare for the championship amidst their tight schedules.

“Initially, we had difficulty in managing time to practice and prepare everything. Especially since the championship was amidst a busy college term. We only had one month to give our best performance for UNAIR,” she said.

Despite the obstacles and limitations, Bunga and the team continued their preparation for the championship. They practiced intensively for a whole month to prepare their energy, mentality, and performance during the competition.

“So, as a team, we are committed to practicing every day. Maybe two to three times a day for intensive training. Although there is no denying the fatigue, the team’s commitment to make the alma mater proud is much greater,” she added.

Bunga added, her team did not only win medals, but they also learned something from their preparation: careful and lengthy preparation is more efficient than short preparation. It was like an evaluation for the team to face the upcoming championship.

Bunga and team also extended their gratitude as they received full supports from UNAIR during the championship. According to her, UNAIR played a big role in the success of their campaign.

“I am very grateful to be in university environment that always support students to develop in non-academic fields. It drives us to keep making achievements for UNAIR,” she said.

She expressed her gratitude to coach and all team members who had worked well together during the championship. “We hope that UNAIR Taekwondo UKM can continue to make achievements for UNAIR in the future,” she hoped.
