UNAIR students win 1st Place in Indonesian Vocational Olympiad Friday, 02 August 2024 08:19

UNAIR NEWS – Another achievement has been made by the students of Universitas Airlangga (Knights of Airlangga). Students of Faculty of Vocational Studies Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), a team representing UNAIR at the 9th Indonesian Vocational Olympiad 2024 has emerged victorious in Local Foodpreneur category.

The team, consisting of Rahmat Firmansyah, Kris Tianto, Aurellia Kavka Saptiananda, and Elsa Dwi Damaiyanti, are students in the Medical Laboratory Technology D4 program. Under the mentorship of Nur Septia Handayani, MPH, they developed an innovation titled “ProCrack (Protein Crackers) Based on Local Ingredients to Optimize Nutrition.”

This year’s Indonesian Vocational Olympiad was hosted by Hasanuddin University in Makassar. The competition, held from July 18-19, 2024, saw them compete against participants from 70 other universities across Indonesia.

Developing food products from local ingredients
The competition that Saptiananda and her team participated in focused on using local ingredients for business purposes. “However, our team aimed not only at business but also at utilizing these local ingredients to help improve food security and optimize nutrition in Indonesia,” Saptiananda explained.

She explained that their product is a type of protein cracker made primarily from Cilembu sweet potatoes, mung beans, and a small amount of moringa leaves. To achieve their victory, Saptiananda and her team underwent a rigorous process, including proposal writing and a final presentation.

Challenges during process
“The challenge from the outset was to align ideas and efforts, which did not always similar with the thoughts of other team members,” said Saptiananda. She also noted that she and her team sacrificed their semester break to prepare for this competition.

“Initially, it was challenging to develop ideas, create the product profile video, and deal with daily revisions while adhering to high coaching standards,” she said. Nevertheless, through effective teamwork, the process ultimately yielded positive results.

Saptiananda also encouraged other vocational students to showcase their talents. “To my fellow FV UNAIR students, let’s prove that we can compete on both national and international stages,” she concluded.
