UNAIR Alumnus Shares Story of Career in Timor Leste in Health Sector Wednesday, 09 October 2024 13:57

UNAIR NEWS - Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is one of the best universities in Indonesia that continues to produce excellent graduates in various fields. One of the most inspiring alumnus is Agostinha Soares MKep or familiarly called Tina. She is an alumna of UNAIR Faculty of Nursing who is currently pursuing a career in Timor Leste.

Tina shared her story as an alumnus as well as telling about her career journey in Timor Leste through a talk show session at the Integration 2024 event. The event was organized by the Dental Health Engineering Student Association (HIMA) Faculty of Vocational Studies UNAIR. The event entitled “International Media Creative Health Competition and Webinar” was held via Zoom Meeting on Sunday, 9/9/2024.

Journey in Education
Health is the main aspect that affects a person's ability to carry out daily activities. This is one of the reasons that motivated Tina to pursue education in the health sector, especially nursing.

“Apart from family encouragement, I believe that health is important for every human being. With a healthy physical, mental and social condition, we can do our daily activities well,” she said.

Tina, who is originally from Timor Leste, decided to choose UNAIR as her place of education. “UNAIR is one of the best universities in the world with facilities that really support my education process. Although there are many obstacles, I am grateful for the support from my friends. So I can learn to be a more disciplined and responsible person,” he explained.

Career Challenges
Tina tells us about her career journey that faced various challenges. She had twice refused an offer to become the head of the pediatrics unit at a hospital in Timor Leste because she was still studying in Indonesia. But in 2020, Tina finally had the courage to accept the third offer to become the head of the pediatrics unit.

Tina revealed that carrying out the mandate as head of the pediatrics unit at the hospital was not as easy as she imagined. “As a leader, it is important to control our emotions and understand the character of each team member. We must understand the situation and their characters in order to lead them to work in accordance with the vision and mission of the organization,” she said.
