UNAIR NEWS – Students get extra points by finding working experiences during college. Ihya’ Ulumuddin Ar-Rayyan also shared the same idea. The Public Health student at Universitas Airlangga joined an internship program at the People’s Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI).
The internship program was launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbud Ristek) in collaboration with the Secretariat General of the DPR RI. Rayyan’s internship program was started from August 22 to December 23 and was held online and offline in Jakarta.
To UNAIR NEWS, Rayyan said he had to pass several selection stages from the Kampus Merdeka committee. Those include administrative selection, scientific article selection, attaching a statement letter of non-participation in political parties, and the interview session.
Choosing a government institution, especially DPR RI, was a personal challenge, as he did not know much about politics in the legislative system. It encouraged him to study harder and learn more to deepen his knowledge.
Rayyan did his internship at the research center, where he carried out various activities to support and create research products, including data collecting, data entry, data processing, writing journal articles, etc.
Furthermore, he also participated in various events with other units, for instance, the internal lecture—with the main legislative analysts in the fields of people’s welfare, politics, and law, to the economy and infrastructure development—and the workshop to learn new product from the research center, the foreign legislation analysis.
Besides, Rayyan also had to manage his time well between his learning activities and the internship.
However, his hard work all paid off with the experience and knowledge he has gained, especially for his future career and wider network.
“Hopefully, what I’ve been through during the internship will be useful for many people and me,” Rayyan said.
