Started from Pinjol Discussion, Fisip UNAIR Student Won International Award Sunday, 21 May 2023 19:54

UNAIR NEWS - Who would have thought that the issue of online loans (pinjol), which has disturbed the Indonesian people, would become a way of achievement for students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNAIR. They are Najwa Latifah and Shabrina Alif Nur Imani, who won 2nd place in an international competition by raising the case study of pinjol from the perspective of muamalah in Islam in the Islamic Economic Competition (IESCO) held by Universitas Gontor Darussalam in Mantingan.

"Pinjol is one of the topics that still need to be discussed more deeply, especially targeting the majority of young people and looking at the theme of the competition, namely Islamic economics, we think there are some crucial things that need to be emphasized when in the end people choose pinjol for their alternative funds," said Shabrina Alif Nur Imani when interviewed by UNAIR NEWS on Sunday (29/01/2023).

Furthermore, she explained that basically, the principles of muamalah in Islam itself must not violate the Quran and Sunnah, there is no value in coercion and violence, no harm, fairness and benefit. However, in practice, many pinjol systems deviate from the rules set by Islamic law. There is a lot of coercion, usury, and even fraud.

"The existence of this pinjol will actually become a loophole for crime and the loss of the welfare of small communities. Instead of helping to improve the economy, it will actually further impoverish victims with a lot of interest that was not explained in the initial contract," said Shabrina.

Not only the community, she continued, trust in the government is also taken into account in the case of pinjol. Online loans with interest must be avoided so they do not spread in the community, which can be detrimental. Even if necessary, public knowledge must be increased in using pinjol services.

Business Agreement is the Solution

Not only reviewing the principles of pinjol with Islamic muamalah, the team also provides solutions as a preventive effort to suppress the crime of pinjol. The solution they poured in a variety of business contract education.

"The solution that needs to exist is a business that gets a bigger education market," said Shabrina.

According to her, one of the problems of pinjol is that even though there is already a financial services authority (OJK), many illegal pinjol still harm the public because the interest paid is huge. From this, Shabrina and Najwa feel that further contract education is vital to minimize illegal pinjol. In addition, it is hoped that efforts to return to progressive economic sustainability through MSMEs implemented with interest-free assistance can run.
