UNAIR NEWS – Students of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) continue to accomplish various achievements. Septy Maranda Kartika Wardani won a gold medal in a Bandung Lautan Api Championship 3. Sayap Rajawali organized the championship with the recommendation of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association in Banten at the GOR Indoor Stadion Benteng Taruna, Tangerang, Banten.

The Banten International Championship is an international-level Pencak Silat competition organized by Sayap Rajawali with the recommendation of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association in Banten. The competition took place at the GOR Indoor Stadion Benteng Taruna, Tangerang, Banten, with approximately 1024 participants.

Joy in training

Septy, the first-place winner, mentioned that she has been in the world of martial arts for a long time. She also mentioned that she had experienced a broken bone, but it didn’t stop her from participating in this international championship.

“I have been training Pencak Silat since junior high school, and my first competition was in 2017. I briefly stopped training in 2019 because of a broken bone and resumed training in 2020.”

“At first, I joined the PSHT student activity unit for an internship. However, the training made me happy because it helped me overcome boredom after studying. The Banten International Championship was my second competition after joining the PSHT student activity unit at Universitas Airlangga,” said Septy.

Challenges and tips to overcome them

Challenges and obstacles are something everyone experiences when trying to achieve something, and Septy is no exception. She mentioned that in every competition, common obstacles include injuries during training, opponents, and regulations.

In this competition, new regulations also posed a difficult challenge because she had to adapt to the new rules. However, she was fortunate to have a coach who tirelessly guided her until she understood the new regulations. What can boost her spirits are her parents, as they continuously provide encouragement and support.

“My tip for other students who want to win competitions is do not ever get tired of practicing, making efforts, praying, and seek blessings from both parents, family, and close friends. When winning a competition, every person will feel happy, but it’s important not to forget to express gratitude and thanks to those who prayed for me. I will continue to train for my parents,” concluded Septy.
