As an institution that houses a cultural heritage building, the Faculty of Medicine at Airlangga University commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Nederlandsch-Indische Artsen School (NIAS) Building. The commemoration of the famous building, known as the Aula FK UNAIR, took place from July 4th, 2023, to July 5th, 2023.

Several events were held during the celebration, including an Online Talk Show titled Road to 100 Years of Aula FK UNAIR. The Ceremonial Event consisted of speeches, seminars, and a Campus Tour by representatives of high school students in Surabaya.

The Ceremonial Event, held on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023, was attended by Dr. Muhammad Madyan SE M Si, Vice Rector for Resources of Airlangga University; Prof. Dr. Budi Santoso dr. Sp OG (K), Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University; Alumni of the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University; Coordinators of Study Programs at the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University; Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Airlangga University; and 25 student representatives from high schools in Surabaya.

Witnessing the Birth of New Doctors

Dr. Hanifa Erlin Dharmayanti Sp.OG, as a representative of the organizing committee, stated that from 1952 until now, the Aula FK UNAIR has witnessed the birth of 11,513 new doctors. It is recorded that since 2002, there have been 4,747 new specialists, 32 Adjunct Professor Inaugurations, Guest Lectures, Awards for Outstanding Students, and the presentation of MURI Records to FK UNAIR.

Furthermore, Nizar Yamanie, dr. Sp SK, the Chairman of the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University, expressed his enthusiasm for the Nederlandsch-Indische Artsen School. He hoped that we would always enhance the strength of education and research for quality healthcare with excellent quality and morality.

"As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the NIAS Building, let us dedicate ourselves to the principles it embodies. We are the guardians of the represented values, and it is our sacred duty to preserve and pass them on to the next generation," added the Chairman of IKA FK UNAIR.

The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University, mentioned that the NIAS Building is always used for special events such as graduation ceremonies, the inauguration of young doctors, and the doctor's oath-taking. "Students come and go, and deans are replaced according to their term of service. We hope that these heritage buildings will remain standing to produce doctors dedicated to the country," concluded Prof. Dr. Budi Santoso, dr. Sp OG (K).
