UNAIR NEWS – Three students of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) successfully won the first place in a national videography competition on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Show Your Talent 2023 event was held by the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Universitas Nusa Cendana. One of the members, Farodina, explained that rabies issue becomes the main theme of the competition.

“The videography competition explored the rabies issue, a deadly zoonotic disease. Therefore, information about the dangers of rabies is highly needed,” she told UNAIR NEWS on Thursday, July 20, 2023.

Preparations for Show Your Talent 2023

Farodina and her team prepared well for the competition, which includes the brainstorming session and integrate ideas into the opening, content, and closing sequences.

“We discussed the video content and combine the ideas for the concept, including location, role allocation, and delivery,” Farodina said.

Until they agreed to make cats as the subject of the video. They produced the video and submitted it for the competition.

Dogs are not the only reservoir for rabies
From several occurring cases, dogs are the main reservoir of rabies transmission. However, Farodinna explained that dogs are not the only animals to pass the disease transmission.

“We inform people that dogs are not the only reservoir of rabies, it can happen to other animals, like pet cat,” she said.

In fact, many people love cats and keep them as pets. Therefore, they highlight cats in their video. They even deliberately showcased the image of the cat at the beginning of the video to emphasize that cats can also serve as a transmission medium.

Side purpose
The video was indeed the main output in their participation for the videography competition. However, Farodina revealed another goal they wanted to achieve; to provide insight to the Indonesian society and raise awareness about rabies.

“We would like to inform everyone to not overlook the rabies. We hope the video could raise their awareness regarding zoonotic diseases, including rabies,” she said.
