UNAIR BBK student promotes Indonesian culture in Japan Wednesday, 02 August 2023 09:08

UNAIR NEWS – International Learning with Community (BBK) is a new program initiated by Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) in collaboration with the World University Association for Community Development (WUACD). This year, 37 students from the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Dental Medicine participated in the program in Japan for ten days.

Learning with local students
To UNAIR NEWS, Prasherly Anura Dinda, one of the participants explained that she got the chance to learn with Hiroshima University students. The experience of exchanging knowledge with the locals left her impressed.

Dinda studied dental material and orthodontics. She hoped to learn new knowledge and implement them once the program has been completed.

“It was so much fun. Beyond community service, we also got new perspectives about dental medicine,” said the Dental Medicine student.

Learning local culture
Apart from studying with the locals, she also got to learn about Japanese culture. Their team visited several historical spots, including Peace Memorial Museum and Atomic Bomb Dome.

“We also met Pharmacy and Dental Medicine students of Hiroshima University to study their learning methods,” she added.

Performing traditional dances
One of the most unforgettable for Dinda was the Kebyar dance performance at the Hiroshima University High School and International House. They promoted traditional dances and wear traditional attires, like jarik, batik fan, and put traditional bun hair.

“Hopefully, the International BBK program can run consistently with more leading university partners. I hope it is going to be a flagship program at UNAIR,” she hoped.
