UNAIR NEWS – A student of Veterinary Medicine Program, School of Health and Natural Sciences (SIKIA) Universitas Airlangga Elis Sulistiyawati participated in the 72nd International Veterinary Students Association (IVSA) Congress Denmark on Sunday, July 23, 2023, to Thursday, August 3, 2023, at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. She is one of three Indonesian student representatives.

Elis said that she had made several presentations during the event. First, she became a representative of the LO of IVSA Equine Network Team. The second one, she represented the IVSA Symposium in Indonesia 2024. The third was when becoming the official secretary after getting votes from other participants. She supported Indonesia in submitting scholarships for Indonesian IVSA students in the forum.

“Indonesia’s GDP is still above 10, less than 12. To get several scholarships for IVSA Indonesia, the provisions for IVSA are below 15,” she said.

During IVSA Congress, there were main activities: the General Assembly (GA) lectures and workshops. There was also a Mandatory Agenda such as a cultural evening, international stand, auction, formal dinner, and white-t-shirt gathering. The SIKIA Veterinary Medicine student of admission class ’20 revealed that the workshop was engaging as it was from the European veterinary medicine and one health point of view, which was very advanced. Being in the blue continent will certainly be very interesting with technological developments there.

“The workshop activities were very interesting and hands-on. The ultrasonographic tech was really cool, of course, with the availability of sophisticated equipment,” she said.

The international stand activity was an exciting event for Elis, as she could taste various foods from many countries without having to visit that country.

“So you can go around tasting food from other countries too,” she said.

Elis learned many new things about the science of handling one health, zoonoses and animal welfare. She also gained very interesting new experiences and friends.

Preparation to be OC President of IVSA Indonesia
Personally, Elis Sulistiyawati has often participated in various IVSA activities offline in various countries before. Being OC President of the IVSA Indonesian Symposium in Bali from 18 to 26 January 2024, motivated her to go to Denmark. So she can prepare various things to serve international IVSA students in the upcoming event.

“What can be shown there and can be brought home to Indonesia,” she said.
