Facing 10,000 Competitors, UNAIR Data Science Student Passes Internship at Ministry of Finance RI Wednesday, 08 May 2024 09:07

UNAIR NEWS - The Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program is an initiative of the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology that offers a rare opportunity for students to explore the world of learning outside their study program. Through MBKM, students can explore a variety of learning activities such as internships, student exchanges, research projects, independent studies, entrepreneurship, and school teaching experiences.

One of the programs that attracted the interest of Ksatria Airlangga Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is the Internship and Certified Independent Study (MSIB). An example is Naufal Arya Raihasa, a student of the Data Science Technology (TSD) study program, who is currently undergoing an internship at the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenkeu RI) as a Data Analyst from February to June 2024.

“The Ministry of Finance has a strategic role in the government structure, managing state finances and assets, and planning the State Budget (APBN) to realize public welfare. Through this internship, we not only contribute to the organization, but also indirectly to society,” Naufal explained.

Challenging Work
He was able to beat more than 10,000 applicants at the Indonesian Ministry of Finance and beat 1,399 applicants in his position. Of the thousands of applicants, only 3 students managed to get the opportunity to become Data Analysts, one of whom was Naufal.

In carrying out his duties, Naufal falls into the realm of extracting insights and building models to handle complex problems. The methods he uses include supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and deep learning, all of which he chooses carefully to achieve optimal results.

“In a project with the Service Management and Stakeholder Relations Team, I was tasked with classifying and analyzing feedback from employees of the Ministry of Finance's Center for Information and Technology (PUSINTEK). This process made it possible to save time on manual labeling and gain deep insights into the problems users face. This is a valuable opportunity for me to apply academic theory in real practice,” said the student from Jakarta.

Effort and Meticulousness
For Naufal, the MBKM internship is not only an experience, but also a valuable opportunity to apply knowledge from lectures to the real world, as well as preparation for future career challenges. As part of his preparation, Naufal carefully prepared his CV, transcript, and portfolio for MSIB administration.

He also conducted in-depth research to understand his interests and the qualifications required by the company. “During the selection process, I followed all stages of the exam diligently, practiced hard for the interview, and last but not least, prayed a lot,” he said.

At the end of the interview session, Naufal strongly emphasized the importance of thoroughness in the MSIB registration process. He has big hopes after the internship period is over. Naufal hopes that his internship will not only improve his knowledge and skills, but also significantly expand his network of relationships.
