UNAIR NEWS – Malaysian Alumni Gathering is a momentum to enhance the employability of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). The event themed “Airlangga Connection: Enhancing Foreign Employability Universitas Airlangga” took place at Hibiscus, Doubletree Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Friday, May 3, 2024. The event was organized by The Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship Incubation, and Alumni Affairs (DPKKA) UNAIR.

Chairman of IKA Alumni Malaysia, Luqman Ismail stated that around 80 alumni, from the class of 1970 to 2000, attended the alumni gathering. There was an alumnus from the first class of Faculty of Medicine UNAIR in 1970 who was assigned by the Malaysian government to pursue medical studies.

“Alhamdulillah, we successfully met our target to gather around 80 alumni. We hope this event can be held continuously in the future. If possible, even hold it at UNAIR so we can reminisce about our campus,” he said.

Furthermore, all the alumni have achieved strategic positions in their careers, which brings added value of appreciation and pride for UNAIR.

Enhancing UNAIR employability
On this occasion, Prof. Dr Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Si, Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Community Development UNAIR, was also present. She stated that the gathering was not just for networking but also to open opportunities that could positively enhance UNAIR’s reputation. “Of course, this will increase our international reputation because these alumni are working abroad,” she said.

On behalf of UNAIR Rector, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, S.E., M.T., Ak., Prof. Nyoman also said that the biggest challenge ahead is the employability of graduates. Therefore, she hopes that alumni can contribute their achievements to UNAIR.

“So, there is an added value in reputation since Employer Reputation is an important aspect for gaining international recognition. Moreover, it is also used for world assessments such as QS, WUR, Asia AUR, Times Higher Education, and other rankings. This assessment is not only to rank institutions but also to evaluate UNAIR’s reputation,” she added.

She also hopes that UNAIR alumni in Malaysia can contribute to their alma mater to improve the experience of other students. Both in Indonesia and in the alumni’s home countries. This contribution is expected to help produce more experienced graduates. “Of course, this is an additional learning experience, maturity in thinking, and better absorption in the job markets,” she concluded.
