DPKKA encourages students and alumni to build personal branding Tuesday, 21 May 2024 10:17

UNAIR NEWS – UNAIR DPKKA continues to support students and alumni through various self-development activities. On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, DPKKA held a webinar on personal branding, which was attended by hundreds of participants.
DPKKA invited Erick Andrea Timothy, the Creative Design Supervisor at PT Victoria Care Indonesia, to speak at the webinar. He explained the process of building a personal brand that can enhance one’s value.

Personal branding creates individual uniqueness
Erick views personal branding as an art. The art, he explained, involves combining one’s character, skills, and uniqueness, making each person a unique version of themselves.

The unique image that emerges from personal branding helps distinguish one person from another. With unique characteristics and skills, individuals stand out and are easily recognized, which can positively impact their competitiveness in the job market.

Erick provided examples of public figures with unique personal branding, such as Taylor Swift. Beyond her singing abilities, Taylor Swift has an effective personal brand.

“Even though she is a famous singer, Taylor Swift packages her songs as if they are the heartfelt expressions of ordinary people. Bullying, heartbreak, and so on. People relate to her and eventually become fans,” said Erick.

Building personal branding
After discussing the benefits of personal branding, Erick encouraged webinar participants to learn the steps to build it. First, he emphasized the importance of understanding the self. It involves identifying the skills representing one’s strengths, which become the foundation for building an effective personal brand.

Next, Erick advised communicating these skills to the surrounding environment. According to him, this is an effort to build a positive self-image. He recommended packaging this image uniquely. Through a unique and positive self-image, the potential to form professional relationships increases.

One implementation of this step is building a personal profile on digital platforms. A digital profile allows individuals to share their skills and achievements with a wide audience. However, Erick urged using these platforms wisely and responsibly.

In the end, Erick’s discussion focused on using social media. He warned participants to be cautious, as some recruiters check social media profiles.

“Well, one type of digital profile is social media. However, we must be careful in using it. Do not carelessly respond to or share sensitive posts,” Erick advised.
