DPKKA seminar reveals importance of soft and hard skills for Gen Z Tuesday, 21 May 2024 12:49

UNAIR NEWS – The Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship Incubation, and Alumnus Affairs (DPKKA) at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has held a seminar with Kinobi and its Customer Success Associate, Angela Alfada Christy, became the speaker at the seminar. The seminar was held on Monday, April 22, 2020, in the Parlinah Room of the Dharmawangsa-B Campus Library UNAIR.

It was themed “Resilience Skills: Soft Skills & Hard Skills for Gen Z Ready to Work.” Angela explained the importance of resilience for Gen Z today.

She said that resilience is an expensive skill and must be trained. “Resilience is one of the most valuable skill. We can learn resilience in college and use it right away,” she said.

Communication and leadership
She said that communication skills are a form of soft skills that everyone should master. Not everyone can convey their message effectively. “We need to master this communication,” she said. “Everyone can talk, but not everyone can convey the message they want to convey.”

Angela added that another soft skill that Gen Z needs to master is leadership. She said that leadership is not just a title or position, but an action. “Leadership is important. The key is that leadership is not just a title or position, but an action,” she explained.

Foreign language skills
Furthermore, Angela highlighted foreign language skills as a form of hard skills in the technological era. She revealed that learning foreign languages, especially English is very important. “Speaking foreign languages is a necessity, at least learn English. It’s really important, especially for those who want to study or work abroad,” she said.

She made it clear that it’s important to start learning a foreign language right away. She said this is because Gen Z people, especially students, need to explore and think for themselves to gain experience outside the campus. “You need to be open to studying outside the campus. You have to be willing to explore because the real world isn’t as comfortable as the campus space,” Angela explained.
