UNAIR FEB students won four trophies at East Java Regional Scientific Meeting Wednesday, 03 July 2024 11:04

UNAIR NEWS – Students from Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) have continued to excel academically, with twelve students from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) winning four trophies at the 2024 Regional Scientific Meeting (Temilreg).

These students, from the Development Economics, Islamic Economics, and Management study programs, are part of the Islamic Economics Study Group (KSEI) AcSES UNAIR. They formed four teams and secured 1st and 2nd places in the Business Plan category, 2nd place in Scientific Writing, and 3rd place in the Islamic Economics Olympiad.

Temilreg, a prominent regional scientific competition in East Java, was organized by FoSSEI East Java and held at the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) in Pamekasan, Madura, from June 5-8, 2024.

Eco-friendly brick innovation
Asfina, a member of the first-place team in the Business Plan competition, shared the inspiration behind their project. Motivated by the eco-friendly and earthquake-resistant bricks used in Japan, her team aimed to address the environmental impact of brick production in Indonesia. High construction demand and significant carbon emissions from traditional red brick production drove them to develop a sustainable alternative.

“One of our business goals is to reduce carbon emissions by using an abundant waste product in Indonesia, bagasse,” explained Fina.

Furthermore, Fina mentioned their plan to collaborate with disability foundations in Indonesia to empower people with disabilities. “We also aim to empower people with disabilities by providing them with opportunities to create something of their own,” she added.

Challenges and adaptation
KSEI AcSES FEB UNAIR is dedicated to Islamic Economics and has a history of producing champions in various scientific competitions, including papers, essays, business plans, business cases, and olympiads at regional and national levels.

Joining an organization makes them focus not only on competition preparation but also on the organization’s work program. It became a challenge for them in the midst of the short preparation time for the competition. “The challenge is brainstorming ideas while preparing the script and managing deadlines alongside organizational responsibilities,” said Jesyca, the second-place winner in the scientific writing competition.
