Febby's love for journalism led her to become Director of Tribun Jatim Tuesday, 20 August 2024 12:57

UNAIR NEWS - Febby Mahendra Putra, an alumnus of Faculty of Law (FH) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), has traveled a long and dedicated journey in journalism. Born from an interest in journalism since college, Febby now leads one of the largest media in East Java.

Pursuing a Career in Journalism
Febby entered UNAIR Faculty of Law in 1984 and earned her bachelor's degree in 1989. Her interest in journalism began to develop during college, where she was active in the faculty's internal media, Expose.

“Since I was a student, I have liked journalism. No wonder when I graduated, I went straight into journalism,” says Febby.

After graduating, Febby immediately joined Harian Surya, part of Kompas Gramedia. Her first assignment took her to Jakarta as a journalist from 1989 to 1991. After that, she returned to Surabaya and began to focus on covering law and crime.

Febby's career continued to grow rapidly. In 1997, she was appointed assistant editor, and a year later editor. In 1999, she was promoted to coverage manager, responsible for planning coverage for all of Harian Surya's journalists.

In 2000, Febby became managing editor, a position that allowed her to lead all activities at Harian Surya. Two years later, she transferred to Harian Metro Bandung as managing editor.

Next, she became deputy editor-in-chief to Tribun Kaltim in East Kalimantan in 2003. Then, he became editor-in-chief a year later.

Leadership at Tribun Network
Febby's journey continued with assignments at Tribun Batam, Tribun Pekanbaru and Tribun Manado. In 2009, she was transferred to Jakarta as Tribun's bureau chief.

Three years later, he was appointed General Manager of Newsroom, managing Tribun Network's newspapers across Indonesia. In 2017, Febby was appointed News Director of Tribun Network, leading 1,600 journalists in 38 provinces.

It was certainly not an easy journey for Febby during her career. The reason is, he often gets pressure from various parties. “The challenges faced by a journalist are many, ranging from physical to psychological pressure. But this is what makes this job interesting and meaningful,” Febby said.

Contribution to the Community
Tribun Jatim, under Febby's leadership, has contributed greatly to society. Through news coverage, Tribun Jatim helps victims of natural disasters, accidents, and disadvantaged people get the help and attention they need.

“Our coverage not only informs, but also helps solve problems faced by the community,” Febby explains.

Febby thinks the future of journalism is increasingly wide open with the development of digital technology. “Journalism is now not only in newspapers, but also online and audiovisual. I hope more and more UNAIR alumni, especially from the Faculty of Communication Sciences and Faculty of Cultural Sciences, will go into journalism,” she said.
