Vocational Job Preparation: Educating students on career planning importance Tuesday, 08 October 2024 11:37

UNAIR NEWS – The Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) in collaboration with the Directorate of Career Development, Incubation, Entrepreneurship, and Alumni (DPKKA) UNAIR and Develop ID, organized a seminar titled “Vocational Job Preparation” (VJP). One of the sessions featured a talk show discussing the significance of career planning.

The event was held on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the Candradimuka Auditorium in the Shared Lecture Building (GKB), MERR-C Campus of UNAIR. The speakers included Ilham Ahmad Kamil, CEO of PT Hidata Teknologi Digital; Icha Audy, a Branding Accountant Entrepreneur; and Nadila Khairunnisa AMd KKK, a Junior Supervisor at Av Juanda.

In his opening remarks, Karisma Windu, President of BEM FV, emphasized that the event represents a commitment to producing job-ready graduates. “To ensure our graduates are job-ready, we support them by bringing in various speakers from the fields of business, engineering, and healthcare,” he explained.

Zony, Chair of the VJP event, added that this seminar serves as a platform for career development. “We aim to provide a space where participants can grow through the seminar and talk show,” he stated.

Career planning
To secure a bright future, career planning is essential. One of the speakers, Audy, stressed that students should start planning their careers as early as possible. “Begin planning your career early. Prepare now for what you want to achieve,” she urged.

Supporting Audy’s view, the second speaker, Ilham, remarked that delaying career planning can result in missed opportunities. “Decide on the career path you want to pursue, whether in academia or business. If you delay this decision until the second or fourth semester, it will only become more challenging later on,” Kamil warned.

Kamil also highlighted the importance of a continuous passion for learning in achieving one’s goals. According to him, grades alone do not determine success. “The secret to success is never to stop learning. You must be enthusiastic and willing to try new things,” he advised.

Apart from career planning, setting clear goals is equally crucial. The third speaker, Khairunnisa, acknowledged that maintaining consistency in achieving goals is not easy. “I break down my goals into smaller, manageable parts, so I don’t feel overwhelmed when setting more significant targets in the future,” she explained.
