DPKKA Seminar Explains the Key to Success in Building Personal Branding Thursday, 10 October 2024 14:39

UNAIR NEWS - Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship Incubation, and Alumni (DPKKA) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held a seminar entitled “How To Create and Strengthen Your Personal Branding” on Friday, September 13, 2020. The event, which took place in Majapahit Hall, ASEEC Tower, Dharmawangsa-B Campus UNAIR, was part of a series of alumni program activities. The activity aims to help students and alumni build personal branding that can support future career success.

“The purpose of this activity is to remind you all how the role of branding is very important for younger siblings and also the alma mater. For younger siblings, of course, for future success, for the alma mater, the impact will be everywhere, “explained DPKKA UNAIR Director Prof. Dr. Elly Munadziroh drg MS in her speech.

Vania Winola, one of the speakers at the seminar, is a student of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNAIR who is successful in the field of content creation. Vania shared her journey from starting her career as a podcaster to now having a TikTok account with 1.8 million followers. According to her, one thing that has been the biggest challenge during her time as a content creator is keeping her name in line with the personal branding that has been formed.

“The main problem and challenge is one simple word, namely name. The name is the most difficult to maintain, develop, all of that is difficult. When we have entered the world of content creators where people already know us, where our personal branding has been successful, it means that inevitably in public we must also follow the personal branding that we have projected,” said Vania.

Self-understanding is Key
Emphasizing the importance of self-understanding such as recognizing one's own values, strengths and weaknesses is key in creating the right personal branding. Personal branding is not just about how others see us, but about how we convey who we are in a unique way.

“Personal branding has to fit, yes. Because if we don't take the right personal branding, we won't be comfortable for the next ten years. So, we have to know what fits first. So, we have to recognize ourselves. It's a bit cliché, yes, but that's what's important. While we are still students, we use our student name to try everything,” Vania continued.

The Importance of Setting Goals
Setting goals in building personal branding is crucial. The purpose of personal branding will affect how a person positions themselves, both in everyday life and in public.

“Whether branding is for a career, entering a dream company, or building a business. We must be clear with our goals, what we are branding for, for ourselves for others or for an institution it's dependent. So you have to know the purpose of personal branding that is suitable,” he concluded.

Building personal branding is not just about looking good, but also about understanding yourself, setting clear goals, and a commitment to remain consistent. With the right strategy, personal branding can be a bridge to achieving long-term success.
